AQ Takes Us Back To The Mixtape Era With “No Feelings”
Though we’ve seen a number of artists prosper out of Texas, AQ remains one of the most underrated to emerge in recent years. Since his formal debut in 2019, the rapper delivered a flurry of music that has captivated hip-hop fans. This week he dropped his first official mixtape, No Feelings.
Inspired by Lil Wayne’s No Ceilings, the mixtape features AQ rapping over some of the biggest instrumentals of 2022 showcasing his ability to hop on any beat and make it his own. He also boasts a guest appearance from longtime friend, Madjik Tha SoulRebel. It’s another solid outing from the San Antonio native that further cements him as a rising voice coming from the Gulf Coast.
The tape has AQ jumping on Bia’s “London”, Drake’s “Laugh Now Cry Later” and “Major Distribution”, Yeat’s “Poppin”, BabyTron’s “Manute Bol”, Polo G’s “Rapstar”, and Nicki Minaj’s “Seeing Green, just to name a few.
In an interview with Apex Culture, the rapper explained why now was the right time to take fans back to the mixtape era:
“I am constantly trying to prove myself to myself. With this, I wanted to showcase the bars. I spent three weeks after I got back from Greece working on it, picking beats from some of my favorite records this past summer. Thinking back on how Wayne captivated us with his mixtapes, it inspired me to make my own version and be as great as the mixtape King. I was really just having fun for the first couple records and then I said to myself - damn I should just make a whole tape.”
Aside from his latest work, other releases from AQ last year include “Gimmie The Loot”, “Supposed To Be”, and “Kick The Buckdet”. Additionally, he’s chiefly impressing listeners with bops from his latest album, PREESH like “.900”, “Echelon '' and “One of Everything”.
